When we talked about end suction pump so being apart of centrifugal type pump family end suction pump come with a casing in different metallurgy having connection of suction at end so called end suction and discharge of end suction pump is from other end normally at top of casing. End suction pump are generally single stage impellers with different material but for fire pumps impeller used is of brass or bronze impellers.
When we need high flow with high pressures so we go with horizontal split case pump which is an unique type and design of family of centrifugal pump type. Horizontal split case pump casing are divided into two separate chambers and that is why horizontal split case pump consider different from inline pump or end suction pumps because those are assembled with the suction nozzles / discharge nozzle and also casing in one chamber.
Although vertical inline pump are very rare install as fire pump packages because this option is needed where there is an issue of low or congested space for fire pump package installation. As vertical inline pump design with vertically oriented shaft along with casing of parallel connections of suction and discharge which shows in line with each other. Vertical inline pump do not need of direction change of suction v/s discharge like we have in end suction pumps.
Vertical multistage centrifugal pumps are kind of inline pump but have multiple impellers or stages which are connected to each other in a series. When fluid enters in first impeller or stage from suction end of the pump line it accelerates pressure and elevate pressure and move to the second impeller or stage where the pressure is increased further and following this process according to number of impellers or stages in vertical multiage pump pressure increased and this upgraded pressure release from discharge end of vertical multistage pump. Normally vertical multistage pumps have low flow with high pressure performance ability and these pumps also consume low electricity due to multistage pumping design.
